colophon: In publishing, a colophon describes details of the production of a book. This information generally includes the typefaces used, and often the names of their designers; the paper, ink and details of the binding materials and methods may also receive mention. In the case of technical books, a colophon may specify the software used to prepare the text and diagrams for publication.

The Site

I'm currently playing with Blogger/Blogspot mostly to see how it compares with WordPress (which I've used for a long, long time) on my "main" blog, "we3geeks (plus one)" hosted on my domain by 1&1. A recent shaky experience with 1&1's customer support and some goofiness with their handling of an unwanted price increase is making me think twice about the need for a traditional hosting company.

A couple other reasons for this exploration:
  • I wouldn't mind getting out of the (admittedly low) level of effort for periodically updating WordPress. I have it down to a very straightforward process, but it is still something I periodically have to do.
  • The surprisingly high volume of spam comments my blog attracts. While Akismet is stunningly accurate in capturing and characterizing spam comments, I still have to periodically go dump them (I found out the hard way what happens when I don't remember to do it every week or so). Again, this is a minor level of effort but it's one more thing.
